Orange Glow

Born in Surrey in 1962, Joanne Last initially trained as a classical pianist at the Royal College of Music and spent many years working as an accompanist and teacher. Despite her musical career, painting remained a constant passion, leading her to study at The Putney School of Art and Design for two years starting in 1990.

Joanne has explored various subjects in her art, including landscapes, abstracts, and cityscapes, but she is consistently drawn to the sea. An avid traveller, she finds particular inspiration in the rugged coasts of North and West Cornwall and the stark beauty of Scotland’s Isle of Islay. Rather than simply recording a view, Joanne aims to capture the full experience of a place—the time of day, shifting light, the movement and weight of water, and the sensations of sun, rain, or wind.
